Despite what some might call a shocking performance by Miley Cyrus, her father Billy Ray Cyrus seemed to be very proud. At the Teen Choice Awards, earlier this month, the teen singer decided to perform a pole dance of sorts.
While performing, "Party In the USA," Miley Cyrus (age 16) jumped up on top of an ice cream cart and danced next to the tall pole coming out of the cart while she sang away. The dance was quite suggestive and garnered much angst and criticism.
When asked about the provocative performance, Billy Ray was quoted as saying that Miley is focused on "entertaining."
Miley's father is said to have encouraged her to block out the negative comments the dance attracted. He is also quoted as saying, "I always tell her to love what you’re doing and stay focused for the love of the art and not worry so much about opinion."
